WESTON, WI (WSAU) — The D.C. Everest School Board is set to hear details of a Sports Performance and Recreation Center during Wednesday’s meeting.
A memo included in Wednesday’s meeting packet calls for the approval of the concept to allow for community engagement, design and site planning, and fundraising purposes for the project. The memo, written by Assistant Superintendent Matt Spets, says the concept has grown out of recent discussions with Marathon County United club soccer about the installation of field turf facilities near the district’s Middle School in Weston.
The memo adds that there is already buzz about the project and that the DC Everest School Foundation would lead the fundraising while school officials would study things like community impact and the potential layout of the facility.
Officials with the school district have previously confirmed that the facility could mirror the Hodag Dome in Rhinelander. That consists of a field turf facility that can be covered with an inflatable roof in the winter to allow for year-round activities such as golf, baseball, softball, track, and tennis/pickleball.
The facility has also served Rhinelander as a polling place for elections and rentable meeting space.
Wednesday’s meeting will take place in the Village Theater at the D.C. Everest Middle School at 6:30.
