MILWAUKEE, WI (WSAU) — If you were watching the Brewers pre-game show without sound on Friday you may have been wondering why Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo was doing a press conference in a Brewers uniform.
No, they haven’t signed him to play first base or pitch, but he has become part of the Brewers ownership group.
He said his reps reached out to Mark Attanasio a year ago to talk about the possibility. After signing his contract to remain in Milwaukee he said he was interested in becoming more a part of the community.
Although he admitted he doesn’t know alot about baseball, he is interested in learning. He also said as he thinks about the future, owning a professional sports franchise interests him.
Giannis becomes the 17th member of the ownership group and those members agreed unanimously to give up a percentage of their shares to make it happen.
Attanasio said “We’ve been really fortunate in many ways here, fortunate to get enormous support from the community. With that support we punch way above our weight and have shown we can compete every year, including this year. “We’re trying to have some of that good karma that Giannis and his teammates created to rub off on us…Who wouldn’t want Giannis as part of their team?”
Giannis was asked why he wanted to do this. He said, “Milwaukee has made me who I am today. Without Milwaukee giving me an opportunity, I wouldn’t be who I am today. I’ve grown to love the city. I made the commitment to stay with the Bucks but there is more to life than basketball.”
