ROTHSCHILD, WI (WSAU) — Volunteers with the Riverside Fire Department in Rothschild and Schofield will soon make runs out of a brand-new station near the Rothschild Village Hall.
Administrator Gary Olsen says the new facility is strategically placed to make getting to calls easier for the volunteers and provide room for more modern equipment.
“We have had the two buildings, and ours was a very old building,” said Olsen. “This was the location we decided to build at, kind of in-between [the communities.]”
He says the location along Business 51 will allow the volunteer firefighters easy access to get to calls in both Schofield and Rothschild and anywhere else they may be called to. It also brings equipment from both locations into one properly-sized building as well.
“It’ll be much more efficient,” he adds.
With the new building will eventually come new equipment as well. “We are looking at a new ambulance next year and we are also looking to write grants for a new ladder truck. So in the next few years you will see new apparatuses.”
Olsen says he expects construction to be completed by Thanksgiving. The facility was supposed to be nearly completed by now, but like so many other things these days delays with the availability for parts and other elements due to COVID-19 has caused holdups.
Other topics Olsen discussed with WSAU’s Mike Leischner include:
