It’s another Thursday Night Lights for the Evergreens.
Sometimes your biggest test comes early in the season, and Chippewa Falls could be the toughest opponent for Everest all year. The Evergreens were good in their season opener, but Chippewa Falls was better. Their passing game was super-efficient, and the Everest defense, while solid, occasionally gave up big plays. Chi Hi is the favorite, and the pick. An Everest win would be a minor upset, and would serve notice for the rest of the season.
The most interesting Friday game is Edgar vs. Stratford, as small-school rivals meet early this year. Edgar played an easier opponent on opening day, but also seemed ready for another championship run. I’ll pick them, on the road, over the Tigers.
Wausau West looked much improved in their opener over DePere. They’re likely winners at home over Merrill.
In other games:
Marshfield over Slinger
SPASH over Superior
Milwaukee Riverside over Rhinelander
Sun Prairie over Wisconsin Rapids
Stanley Boyd over Marathon
Lakeland over Tomahawk
Escanaba over Antigo
