MEDFORD, WI (WSAU) — The State Department of Ag, Trade, and Consumer Protection has confirmed a deer in Taylor County recently tested positive for Chronic Wasting Disease, triggering a bating and feeding ban for the next three years.
That means starting September 1st the baiting and feeding of wild deer will be banned for the next three years. The measure aims to keep deer from congregating together around the food to prevent the spread of CWD.
According to the DNR, the deer was found on an unspecified farm in the county.
Taylor County becomes the 9th county in the area to have an active baiting and feeding ban in place. Clark County is currently the only county in the area where the practice is allowed.
More information on baiting and feeding bans can be found on the DNR website.
