BUFFALO, NY (WSAU) – The Packers, with many of their starters inactive for the final preseason game, were shut out by the Buffalo Bills, 19-0.
The Packers were up against many of Buffalo’s number 1 offense for much of the first half. Josh Allen completed 20-of-26 passes for 194 yards and two touchdowns.
Jordan Love, making his second pre-season start, played the entire first half. He was 10-of-16 for 149 yards. He also threw an ill-advised interception, heaving the ball over the middle while stumbling backward. It was picked off by former Packer Micah Hyde. Kurt Benkert, hoping to make the Packers opening day roster as a third quarterback, played in the second half. He was 7-for-11 for 87 yards.
Receiver Reggie Begelton had four catches for 51 yards.
The Packers made three trips to the red zone but came away with no points. That included a stop on 4th-down near the goal line. and a Mason Crosby missed field goal near the end of the first half.
It’s the first time the Packers have had a winless preseason since 1987. This year many Packers starters, including quarterback Aaron Rodgers, didn’t play a single down.
The Packers must cut their roster down to 53 players by Monday. The regular-season opener is September 12th at the New Orleans Saints.
