MINNEAPOLIS, MN (WSAU) — The Milwaukee Brewers avoided a sweep at the hands of the floundering Minnesota Twins with a 6-2 result at Target Field.
Luis Urias gave the Crew their first lead of the series with a solo home run in the 2nd inning. Rowdy Tellez followed that with a three-run shot in the following frame to build the lead to 4-0.
Kolten Wong tacked on two more with a double in the 4th. Miguel Sano matched that number with a home run in the bottom of the frame, but that was all the Twins could get.
Wong, Yelich, and Jackie Bradley Jr each recorded two hits in the game for the Brewers.
Aaron Ashby picked up his first win of the season in his first start for the Brewers. He scattered three hits over five innings to Twins batters while allowing two runs.
Ashby was a 2018 fourth-round draft choice of the Brewers out of Crowder Junior College in Missouri. His uncle is Andy Ashby, who played for five different clubs between 1991 and 2004.
Four relievers split up the final four innings to secure the win. Nine of the final 12 outs record by Brewers pitching came via the strikeout.
The Brewers now sit at 79-52 on the season with an 8.5 game lead on Cincinnati in the NL Central. They’ll head to the west coast tonight for the start of a three-game set against the San Francisco Giants Monday night. Pregame coverage will begin at 8:10 with the first pitch set for 8:40.
