RHINELANDER, WI (WSAU-WXPR) — The Rhinelander School District is teaming up with the Oneida County Health Department to host a COVID-19 vaccine clinic during the school’s upcoming open house on Monday.
The shots will be available to any student over the age of 12 without an appointment and will come at an important time just before the start of the new school year says Linda Conlon with the Health Department.
“Vaccination is a very important part. Because vaccines are only approved for kids 12 and up, it’s important for us to get as many students vaccinated as possible so that they are protecting those younger kids, generally siblings, and we are protecting those around us, as well as themselves,” Conlon told WXPR Radio in Rhinelander.
She says it’s especially important with the Delta variant spreading because that has proven to be more problematic for children and teens. Healthcare workers are also finding it spreads through households more easily as well.
“If everyone could wear their mask as they go to school and we could get kids vaccinated and continue with our mitigation strategies, hopefully we can decrease the chances of a huge spike in our area,” she added.
