MERRILL, WI (WSAU) — Merrill Mayor Derek Woellner has issued a four-week mandate for face coverings in all city buildings.
Woellner cites several reasons for the decision including:
-Very high disease activity level
-Steady increase of positive cases
-34% of COVID-19 tests were positive this week
-Viral load is higher; resulting in more symptoms and faster spread throughout the home, gatherings, and worksites
-18.5% (27/146) of cases have been vaccine breakthrough cases
-10 hospitalizations; those individuals were in their 30s, 40s, 50s, 70s, and 90s; 1 individual has been vaccinated
-3 new deaths; those individuals were in their 60s and 70s; all unvaccinated.”
Additionally, Woellner cites new CDC guidance which recommends masks even for those that are vaccinated as disease activity has increased.
The mandate will run through September 28th.
