WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — The Wausau Fire Department has been awarded over $33,000 in grant funding from the Department of Homeland Security for equipment upgrades.
The funds will be used in two areas; one portion of the grant is for new Rapid Intervention Team packs and the other for a new stair chair device.
The RIT packs contain a breathing cylinder, emergency hose, and fittings to allow firefighters to rescue people that may be trapped in a burning building. The Stair Chairs are used by department paramedics to move patients safely when they’re unable to walk. They protect the patient when they’re being carried as well as protect the paramedics when lifting the patient.
The grant award represents the third round of funding the Wausau Fire Department has received from the Assistance to Firefighters grant pool to the tune of $93,916.41. “These funds have greatly aided the department in making key purchases for vital equipment.” said the department in a Facebook post.
