MILWAUKEE, WI (WSAU) — Former Brewers OF Ryan Braun is officially announcing his retirement from baseball.
In a video shared by the Brewers on Twitter, Braun said retirement is something he had been pondering for several months after the end of the COVID-19 shortened season in 2020.
“I have weighed this decision for many months. While I still love this game very much, the time is right for me to retire from my playing days,” he said.
Today, more than 14 years after I first took the field as a Milwaukee Brewer, I’ve decided to retire. While it’s impossible to summarize my emotions, what I feel most is one, simple thing – gratitude.
I just wanted to take a moment to say ‘thank you’.

Braun finishes his 14-year career with just under 2,000 hits, 352 home runs, and 1,154 RBI. One of his best years came in 2011 when he was named NL MVP, hitting .332 while recording 33 home runs while helping Milwaukee claim the NL Central title.
That year the Brewers defeated the Arizona Diamondbacks in the NLDS before falling in six games to the St. Louis Cardinals in the League Championship Series. The Cards would go on to win the World Series in seven games over the Texas Rangers that year.
The Brewers plan to honor Braun during their final home game of the 2020 regular season on September 26th against the New York Mets.
