SCHOFIELD, WI (EVERYTHING EVERGREENS-93.9 THE GAME) – D.C. Everest’s offense was stuck in neutral. Three times Marshfield possessed the ball with a 7-3 lead. Going up by two scores would have put the Evergreens in a deep hole. But the points never came for the Tiger.
Instead it was Everest that made the big plays in the fouth quarter, rallying for a 17-7 win.
Everest’s Ty Stretlow completed a fourth-down pass from punt formation to keep a drive going. Two plays later quarterback Jack Bobinski threw into double coverage in the end zone. Wide out Preston Miller out-jumped the two defenders and came down with a 34-yard touchdown reception and a 10-7 lead.
The Everest defensive secondary came up with another fourth interception on the next possession. A 5-yard touchdown run by Simon Witt with 1:36 remaining would put the game out of reach.
Quarterback Jack Bobinski, starting in place of the injured Beau Svoke, got a win in his first varsity start. His passing was inconsistent for much of the game, but he limited his mistakes and gashed the Marshfield defense with several long runs. The Everest defense was on the field a lot, gave up its share of yardage, but didn’t break. The defensive secondary was a puzzle for Marshfield’s Trever Foemmel, who was also inconsistent. Triton Schmidt had two of the interceptions.
The Everest-Marshfield rivalry game seldom fails to disappoint. The last three meetings were decided on late plays, with Everest winning twice. It’s a costly loss for the Tigers, who hoped to be in the conversation for a conference title. They still have tough games remaining against Wausau West and SPASH.
The Evergreens go on the road to play SPASH next week. A win would move them into a first-place tie in the Valley Football Association-West.
