STEVENS POINT, WI (WSAU) — With one month to go before the “70 for 70” vaccine program deadline, the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point has a long way to go to reach the 70% target.
As of September 15 just 46% of students at UWSP are vaccinated against COVID-19. Of the 13 main campuses in the UW system, just one has a lower vaccination rate (Parkside at 38%).
The flagship campus in Madison boasts a rate of over 90%. UW Platteville is just above Stevens Point with 47% of students vaccinated.
The “70 for 70” campaign runs through October 15th. On that date the UW System will award 70 scholarships valued at $7,000 to students on campuses where the vaccination rate has passed 70%.
Should a campus not reach that 70% threshold, their scholarships will be redistributed to the campuses that did.
As of September 15th, just two campuses had passed the 70% mark- La Crosse at 75% and Milwaukee at 74%. The Eau Claire campus is not far off at 69% while Oshkosh sits at 61%.
The UW Madison campus is not included in the “70 for 70” promotion.
