EAGLE RIVER, WI (WSAU-WAOW) — The Federal Aviation Administration has now confirmed that three people were killed in a plane crash in Forest County on Tuesday.
According to the preliminary notice released by the FAA on Wednesday, the plane crashed under unknown conditions into a swampy area near Eagle River. The pilot and two passengers were killed.
There were no injuries to anyone else on the ground.
Officials say the Rockwell 690B aircraft is considered destroyed.
Circumstances surrounding the crash remain under investigation. Rhinelander-Oneida County Airport Director Matthew Leitner did confirm that the aircraft took off from the facility at 8:45 Tuesday morning. Shortly after 9:30 AM, the facility was alerted to a report of a missing plane by air traffic controllers from Minneapolis-St. Paul International, who are tasked with monitoring the skies over Northern Wisconsin.
Names of those involved and the pilot’s destination have not been released.
