LOS ANGELES, CA (WSAU) — Eduardo Escobar recorded two of Milwaukee’s four hits in an 8-3 loss to the Dodgers in the 161st game of the season for both clubs.
Milwaukee opened the scoring in the top of the first on an RBI base hit from Christian Yelich, but the Dodgers would immediately counter with three runs in the bottom of the frame. They managed to grow that lead to 8-1 by the bottom of the 8th.
The Brewers did manage two runs in the top of the 9th on a Willy Adames solo homer and a Tyrone Taylor RBI base hit, but the game was too far out of reach.
Corbin Burns took the loss in two innings of work. Milwaukee then called on Colin Rea to pitch the final six innings- he allowed seven hits and five earned runs.
Milwaukee will send Brett Anderson out for the final game of the 2021 regular season on Sunday. The Dodgers, who can still win the NL West title and avoid the one-game Wildcard with a win on Sunday, will pitch Walker Buehler.
Los Angeles needs a win and a loss by the Giants to force a Tiebreaking Game 163 on Monday. The winner of that game would be the #1 seed as NL West champion, the loser would host the St. Louis Cardinals in the NL Wildcard game, with the winner then taking on the NL West Champ in the NLDS.
San Francisco can avoid all of that with a win on Sunday- that would give them the division title and send the Dodgers to the Wildcard game regardless of the outcome of Sunday’s game between Milwaukee and LA.
The other race to watch on Sunday is for the AL Wildcard which could end in a four-way tie with a perfect storm of outcomes between the Blue Jays, Mariners, Red Sox, and Yankees. Boston and NY hold the upper hand- should either of them win they would guarantee their spot in the Wildcard game. A loss by either opens the door for Toronto or Seattle to make things interesting
