MADISON, WI (WSAU) — The #5 Wisconsin volleyball team won a pair of matches over the weekend. They swept #7 Minnesota 3-0 on Friday and beat Illinois 3-1 on Sunday on the road.
Friday the Badgers were led by a career-high 17 kills from freshman Julia Orzol. Dana Rettke had 13 kills and Grace Loberg added 11. Lauren Barnes had 23 digs. Wisconsin also scored on five service aces including two from Izzy Ashburn.
Sunday Wisconsin dropped the first set to the Illini 25-22 before rallying for the win. Sydney Hilley had 54 assists for Wisconsin. Orzol had 17 kills, Devyn Robinson had 14 and Rettke added 10. Barnes had 26 digs.
The Badgers, now 11-1, 3-1 in Big Ten, host Iowa on Wednesday. The match will be shown on the Big Ten Network.
The Wisconsin womens hockey team swept a pair of games over Merrimack in Andover Massachusetts. They won on Friday 4-0 and took a 5-0 win on Saturday.
Casey O’Brien had two goals on Friday. Makenna Webster and Sarah Wozniewicz also scored. Daryl Watts had three assists and is now tied for 10th in NCAA history with 248 points. Kennedy Blair had 16 saves.
Blair had 13 saves in the 2nd shutout of the weekend on Saturday. Webster had a goal and three assists. O’Brien had a goal and 2 assists. Watts, Wozniewicz and Marianne Picard also scored.
The Badgers, now 4-0, will host St. Cloud State on Saturday and Sunday at LaBahn Arena.
The Badger mens hockey team dropped an exhibition game to Minnesota-Duluth 4-2 on Saturday in Chippewa Falls.
They open the regular season against Michigan Tech on Friday and Saturday at the Kohl Center.
The Wisconsin mens soccer team ran their record to 6-0 with a 1-0 win over Maryland on Sunday in Madison.
Andrew Akindele had the goal for Bucky.
The Badgers play at Ohio State on Friday night.
