NEILLSVILLE, WI (WSAU) — The man charged in connection with the disappearance of Cassandra Ayon has requested to have his trial moved out of Clark County.
Court proceedings were held Tuesday for Jesus Contreras Perez where a judge announced that a motion hearing on a change of venue request will be held on November 30th. The 41-year-old has been charged with felony counts of first-degree intentional homicide, hiding a corpse, and stalking.
Investigators say Contreras Perez killed Ayon, the mother of his child, in October of 2020. She was last seen in the early-morning hours on October 3rd and has not been heard from since. Friends and family say there’s been no cell phone or bank activity, and there is no reason to believe she has left the country.
The couple was said to have been in an abusive relationship. Ayon had recently broken up with Contreras Perez, citing infidelity and abuse. Friends say she was repeatedly threatened by him.
The first-degree homicide charge alone carries a mandatory life sentence with only the possibility of parole.
