STEVENS POINT, WI (WSAU-WAOW) — One person has been hospitalized and dozens of residents are displaced after a fire was reported at the Hi Rise Manor Apartment Complex on Briggs Court in Stevens Point.
WAOW TV reports residents of the building were evacuated just after 7 AM on Wednesday and smoke could be seen coming from the windows.
The fire is said to have started in a third-floor unit. The tenant of that apartment was taken to the hospital for undisclosed injuries. No other injuries have been reported.
Police and fire officials say 75 residents were transported by city bus and school buses to the Aging and Disability Resource Center/Lincoln Center.
The extent of the damage and cause of the fire are both unknown at this time. Red Cross officials are helping residents with both short and long-term needs.
A total of 13 different departments responded to the two-alarm fire including units from Wood, Waupaca, and Marathon Counties.
