WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — New Beginnings Wisconsin will hold a public information session on refugee resettlement in Wausau Thursday evening.
The session is designed to answer questions the community may have before dozens of refugees trickle in over the next year, starting with a group of about 10 refugees this December.
By the end of 2022, as many as 85 refugees may be living and working in Wausau as they build a new life.
Registration for the event is still being taken and can be made through the New Beginnings website by clicking here. The Zoom event begins at 6 PM and is scheduled to run through 7:30.
The group is also looking for local volunteers who are willing to help the refugees get settled and acclimated to life in the Wausau area.

Those coming to Wausau will be vetted by numerous US agencies and undergo complete medical screenings.
The refugees will be placed by the Ethiopian Community Development Council. It’s too soon to say if some of those placed in Wausau will come from Afghanistan or other parts of the world, but the group did hint in a previous press release that Wausau could be part of their Afghan resettlement program.
