WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — Some employees at Wausau City Hall will be getting a pay raise on January 1st.
The city’s Finance Committee and City Council both voted to approve the third phase of a proposed wage hike outlined by the 2019 wage study conducted by the city.
Finance Committee Chair Lisa Rasmussen said the city did put the survey’s reccomendations partway in place. “We bought everybody to the mid-point but that really was not a full implementation of the consultant’s reccomendation,” she said.
The incrase is set to cost some $54,000 and is already budgeted for 2022.
The move comes as the city is looking to fill numerous vacancies in all areas. Rasmussen notes that as the city has to publicize bonuses and other benefits to fill those jobs, they can’t forget about those who are tenured as well. “When you start to sweeten the deal at the bottom, then not do anything for those that have been around a while that does create some internal pinch points as well,” said Rasmussen.
Mayor Katie Rosenberg told WSAU News earlier this week that she’d like to see further investigation into how the city can bring in and retain employees including a workplace culture survey along with recruiting videos.
