WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — A Marathon County Supervisor has passed away following a heart attack last week.
Arnold Schlei of Easton died at Aspirus Wausau on Wednesday, October 13th at the age of 73, according to a published obituary. He was hospitalized earlier in the day and died in the evening.
Schlei spent a significant portion of his life in public service. He served as a building inspector in Easton before being elected to the town board starting in 1987. In 1993 he was elected town chairman and held that position for nearly 30 years until he died.
He also served with the Wisconsin Towns Association and Wisconsin County Forests Association.
“He was a skilled carpenter and enjoyed reading about history and the outdoors. He enjoyed a good game of cribbage and sheepshead with friends, especially Al Seymour. He took pride in canning from his garden and cooking for the family with his wife Pat. Arnie was a life-long member of Zion Lutheran Church in Aniwa. He loved his family and was especially proud of his four Grandchildren. Arnie continued to give back to his community as an organ and tissue donor,” his obituary read.
Schlei’s district also included a portion of Wausau.
Friends and family have asked that trees be planted in his memory in lieu of flowers.
Services for Schlei will be held this coming Saturday, October 23rd at Zion Lutheran Church on Star Road in Aniwa at 11:30 AM. Visitation will be held Friday evening from 4-8 PM, and will also be held from 10 AM until the time of the service on Saturday.
