WAUSAU, WI (WSAU-WAOW) – Construction began Tuesday on a new Hemophilia clinic in Wausau.
The Hemophilia Outreach Center of Green Bay is building at a site on Stewart Avenue. It will serve those suffering from hemophilia and other rare bleeding disorders.
The clinic will serve all ages.
“This isn’t like your common cold where rest and water is going to eventually make it go away,” Hemophilia Outreach Center Executive Director Jamison Buxton told WAOW-TV. “You’re dealing with this for the rest of your life.”
Buxton went on to say that one in 20,000 individuals in the United States are living with hemophilia.
Due to the small amount of people impacted by it on a larger scale, Buxton said it often times gets overlooked. “There is not a lot of resources and other individuals to network with, so our job is to educate and empower, and connect individuals,” Buxton said.
Doors to the new clinic are anticipated to open by January of 2022.
