MADISON, WI and ST. CLOUD, MN (WSAU) — The top-ranked Badger women’s hockey team got a three-point day from Casey O’Brien (one goal, two assists) in a 3-1 win over Ohio State on Saturday in WCHA play.
Daryll Watts added one goal and one assist. Grace Bowlby also found the back of the net in the game. Kennedy Blair made 27 saves in the game.
Wisconsin moves to 9-0 on the young season, 5-0 in WCHA play. The same two teams will close out their weekend set later this afternoon in Madison.
Meanwhile the Badger men stumbled for a second straight night in St. Cloud, falling to the #3 Huskies 4-1.
SCSU built a 3-0 lead by the end of the second period thanks to two power play goals. Wisconsin got one back in the 3rd when Dominick Mersch scored a short-handed goal, but Walker Nolan would cancel that out late in the third.
Jaxon Castor made 31 saves in the loss.
Wisconsin drops to 2-4 on the season and will open Big Ten play next weekend with a two-game set at Michigan. The Wolverines entered the weekend with a perfect 4-0 record and the #1 ranking in the latest USCHO poll, receiving 45 of 50 first-place votes.
