RIB MOUNTAIN, WI (WSAU-WAOW) – Granite Peak began making snow earlier this week.
Management said the snow machines hadn’t been used in almost 10 months.
Their plan is to have enough snow on the ground to have two chair lifts running when they open.
General manager Greg Fisher says they’ll keep greater watch of high humidity while they’re making snow, so as to not cause any problems on nearby roads. “That’s when the opportunity can get to where we’ll make snow and it’ll actually put moisture into the atmosphere and then Mother Nature will actually make snow elsewhere. So it’s not actually our snowflakes that are falling on the ground.”
The snow-making process is expected to take a couple of weeks.
Fisher says opening day in tentatively scheduled for November 20.
