FRIENDSHIP and WABENO, WI (WSAU-WAOW) — Two Central and Northern Wisconsin counties are reporting incidents of unsafe items being handed out with Halloween candy last weekend.
WAOW TV reports that in Friendship County one house inadvertently handed out some THC-laced chocolates with other candies. A parent noticed the different labels and was able to take the item before their child consumed it.
Sheriff’s officials were able to determine what house the chocolate with a kick came from, and determined that the person handing out the candy didn’t have any bad intentions and that the chocolate was accidentally mixed with the rest of the goodies.
Meanwhile, in the Forest County community of Wabeno, a vial of synthetic blood was found in a child’s Halloween candy bag. Officials say the item, identified as XN-L Check, is considered biohazard material and shouldn’t be found outside of a lab setting.
The vial was believed to have been handed out at a Trunk-or-Treat event at the Wabeno Elementary School. It’s unclear if the source of the vial has been pinpointed.
Forest County officers are encouraging other parents who may have brought their children to the event to carefully check their candy and turn over any other vials that may have been distributed.
