HOUSTON, TX (MetroSource-WSAU) — The Atlanta Braves are the 2021 World Series Champions. Atlanta defeated the Astros 7-0 in Game Six of the World Series in Houston.
Jorge Soler, Dansby Swanson, and Freddie Freeman homered for the Braves. Max Fried pitched six scoreless innings to pick up the win for Atlanta. The Astros finished with just six hits.
It’s the first championship for the Braves since 1995 and the first professional championship for Atlanta since 2018 when Atlanta United won the MLS Cup in their inaugural season.
Braves outfielder Jorge Soler is being recognized for his efforts in helping lead Atlanta to a World Series victory over the Astros. Soler was named the Willie Mays World Series MVP.
The outfielder and designated hitter hit three home runs in the series for Atlanta over the six games. Soler is also the second Cuban to win the World Series MVP, after Livan Hernandez won it for the Marlins in 1997.
