STEVENS POINT, WI (WSAU-WAOW) – A grim milestone has been reached in Portage County: 100 COVID-19 Deaths
Wednesday night the Portage County Health Department put up a memorial featuring 100 lights in memory of each one of the lives lost in the Portage County community.
One health official said while 100 lives may seem like a small number compared to the thousands lost across the country, but that these people mattered to their community. “These were people that were part of our cases that simply didn’t survive the virus. It’s very unfortunate and our hearts really go out to all of their families and all of their friends,” Gary Garske told WAOW-TV.
Health officials used that time to encourage people to practice preventative measures like masking, hand washing and getting vaccinated.
