WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — Discussion on the roughly $200 million Marathon County Budget for 2022 lasted about seven minutes during Thursday’s County Board Informational Meeting.
Supervisor John Robinson said much of that silence may be a credit to the budget writers for getting things right. “We’re here for the first time in years without a lot of debate and discussion. That’s reflective of the effort that went into developing the budget, and they [the budget writers] should be commended.”
The budget does not include the county’s share of ARPA funding. Robinson says they are still undecided about how to use that but it may go towards projects such as expanded broadband internet access.
According to the published budget book the average property value in the county has risen to $173,349. With the tax rate sitting at $4.55, the county portion of that “average” property’s tax bill would be about $788, representing an increase of $22 or about three percent.
The budget will get a final vote on Tuesday, November 9th as part of the action meeting. To see the entire budget presentation as included in Thursday’s agenda, click here.
As usual, residents can expect to get their full 2022 property tax bills featuring the city, county, school, and technical college portions along with the 2022 lottery tax credit in early December.
