WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — An Edgar woman was arrested after a head-on crash on October 29th around 11:30 am on Hwy M in the Marathon County Town of Cleveland.
The Wausau Pilot & Review is reporting that 40-year-old Jessica Kasten was taken into custody after fleeing into a cornfield after the crash. Police discovered liquor bottles in her vehicle.
She was found in the field with the use of a drone and asked a deputy to ignore the anti-anxiety pills in her possession. She also said she ran “because she didn’t want to go back to prison even though the accident wasn’t her fault”. The other driver was cited for failure to yield while turning.
Kasten was taken to a local hospital where she refused a breathalyzer and had blood drawn to determine her level of intoxication. Those results are pending.
Kasten had been sentenced to 10 years probation For a 2008 child neglect case after her child died while Kasten was sleeping off methamphetamine. She was later arrested for drunk driving with two children in the car and was sentenced to seven years in prison and 10 years of extended supervision.
A plea hearing is set for December 20th.
