STEVENS POINT, WI (WSAU) — The UWSP womens basketball team used a 15-0 run in the second quarter to overcome an early deficit and beat St. Marys 73-58 on Tuesday night at Berg Gym.
Josie Nies led the Pointers with 14 points. Alexa Thomson had 13 and Taylor Greenheck added nine. Thomson and Kelly McIntyre had eight rebounds each.
The Pointers, now 1-0, will host the Tip-Off Classic this weekend. Their first game is Friday at 5pm vs Benedictine. Fans are encouraged to bring non-perishable food items to benefit The Cupboard.
The UWSP womens hockey team beat St. Norbert 5-1 on Tuesday night at Ice Hawks Arena. The Pointers got goals from five different players.
Goals went to Sara Aadalen, Nicole Neuberger, Gina Magro, Bella Moskonas and Maike Zipp. Olivia Schultz had 28 saves.
The Pointers, now 2-4, will host UW-River Falls on Friday night at 7pm
The UWSP mens basketball team opens the season tonight at St. Olaf.
