MILWAUKEE, WI (WSAU) — The Milwaukee Brewers are going a different route with their hitting coach position in 2022. They announced Thursday that Ozzie Timmons and Connor Dawson will share the position with an assistant to be named later.
David Stearns said that the job has become to large and complicated for one person. he told the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel that “over the last three to five years, as information continues to proliferate in our game, we’re asking more and more of our coaches in general and that’s certainly true of our htting coaches.”
The Brewers decided to make a change after their offense sputtered this season with the exception of a small window in late July and early August. Andy Haines and his assistant, Jacob Cruz, were dismissed after three seasons.
Timmons, who is 51,comes highly recomennded from the Tampa Bay Rays and Dawson, 28, served as minor league hitting instructor with Seattle last season. Timmons is a former major leaguer who played 16 years in professional baseball. Dawson played and coached in college baseball before his job with Seattle.
The Brewers also announced that their other coaches would return next season. Pat Murphy (bench coach), Jason Lane (3rd base coach), Chris Hook (pitching coach), Steve Karsay (bullpen coach), Walker McKiven (associate pitching coach, catching & strategy coach), Quinten Berry (first base coach) and bullpen catchers Nestor Corredor and Adam Weisenburger.
