ANTIGO, WI (WSAU) — The suspect in an Antigo stabbing incident was in a Langlade County Courtroom on Friday where he waived his preliminary hearing.
Derek Goplin faces four felony counts including first-degree intentional homicide and charges of recklessly endangering safety, reckless injury, and reckless homicide. Investigators say he stabbed Susan Reese, his mother, in her home in late October.
Police say there may have been a child present in the home at the time of the crime as well. Police say they were told by a 5-year-old that grandma tried to kill dad, but then dad stabbed grandma.
In addition to waiving his preliminary hearing attornies for Goplin also indicated that they have filed for a change of venue in the case, but indicated they were doing so only to keep the option available.
Arrangement for the 38-year-old is scheduled for December 17th. He’s being held on a $1 million bond.
