MADISON, WI (WSAU) — The Wisconsin womens soccer team won their opening NCAA Tournament game with a 2-1 win over Butler on Friday night at McClimon Soccer Complex.
Natalie Viggiano scored both goals for Wisconsin and the Badgers led in the shot count 11-7. Izzy Verdugo and Emma Jaskanic had the assists.
Jordyn Bloomer had four saves.
The Badgers will face UC-Irvine next with date and place TBA.
The Wisconsin mens hockey team fell to Notre Dame 5-1 on Friday night in South Bend. Roman Achan had the only Badger goal.
The two teams will play again tonight.
The #4 ranked Wisconsin volleyball team lost to #9 Purdue for the 2nd time this season in a four set match Friday night at the Fieldhouse.
The scores were 20-25, 25-19, 22-25, 21-25. Wisconsin had won 30 straight matches at home.
Dana Rettke set a career UW blocking record with five to break the mark of 682 set by Heather dodaro from 1994-96.
Grace Loberg had 12 kills and Sydney Hilley had 38 assists & 17 digs. Lauren Barnes had 16 digs and four service aces in the match.
The Badgers, now 20-3, 12-3 in Big Ten, will host Northwestern on Sunday afternoon
