WISCONSIN RAPIDS, WI (WSAU) — A 35-point second quarter helped the Newman Catholic Cardinals defeat Luck 49-6 to claim their first-ever state football championship.
Newman outgained Luck by nearly 300 yards on the day en route to the win. QB Conner Krach accounted for five touchdowns including three rushing and two passing.
Eli Gustafson scored two receiving TD’s and also recovered a 4th quarter fumble in the end zone to round out the scoring for the day.
The win avenges Newman Catholic’s 2019 loss to Luck in the state final and caps an undefeated season for the Cardinals (12-0). Luck’s Cardinals finishes 10-2, and are now 1-2 all-time in state eight-player football title games.
