WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — A former sub in the Wausau School District has had a three-day trial set for charges of first-degree sexual assault stemming from inappropriate contact with children under the age of 13.
Court records show that the state and defendant, Zachary Robins, don’t appear to be heading to a plea deal. On Monday a Marathon County judge set a jury trial to run from April 12th through 14th, 2022. A motion hearing will be held in March four weeks before the trial.
Robins is accused of touching a female student through a hole in the back of her clothing and also touching another student on the backside. That occurred in the fall of 2019, he was then hired a few days later to sub in the D.C. Everest School District, but they removed him from the classroom partway through the day when the accusations came to light.

Robins told investigators that he didn’t mean any harm by the actions but later regretted them. He was hired by Parallel Education, a substitute staffing service, who said he passed all background checks and other state requirements before being hired. He has since been let go.
