(UNDATED) — LA Angels two-way star Shohei Ohtani is the American League Most Valuable Player by a unanimous decision.
Ohtani beat out Toronto teammates Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Marcus Semien for his first career MVP Award. Ohtani went 9-and-2 with a 3.18 ERA this season while also batting .257 with 46 home runs and 100 RBI in 155 games.
He became the first player in MLB history to reach at least 45 home runs, 25 stolen bases, and five triples in a single season. Ohtani also made history when he was named an All-Star as both a starting pitcher and designated hitter.
In The National League Philadelphia Phillies outfielder Bryce Harper is celebrating his second career MVP Award.
Harper won NL MVP honors over San Diego’s Fernando Tatis Jr. and Washington’s Juan Soto. Harper received 17 of the 30 first-place votes. He also won MVP with the Nationals in 2015.
It’s the first time since 1987 both MVPs came from non-playoff teams, and just the fourth time overall since the BBWAA began voting in 1931.
