MADISON, WI (WSAU) — The Wisconsin Badgers took a back-and-forth affair from Nebraska thanks to a 53-yard touchdown scamper from Braelon Allen to cap off a 35-28 B1G win on Saturday.
Allen, the Freshman from Fond du Lac, was the offensive catalyst for the day with three touchdowns and 228 yards. In addition to the game-winning 53-yard run, Allen also scored from 71 yards out and three yards.
The Badgers wasted no time getting on the scoreboard when Stephen Bracey took the opening kickoff back 91 yards for a touchdown. Nebraska answered back with a 5-play, 74-yard drive that ended with a one-yard touchdown run.
Graham Mertz was once again efficient completing 12 passes for 145 yards and one touchdown. That was a 17-yard strike to Kendrick Pryor that opened the scoring in the 3rd quarter.
From there the two sides continued to exchange scores. The game saw four ties but Nebraska never held a lead.
The Cornhuskers fell to 3-8 on the season and 1-7 in the conference but have been competitive in nearly every game this season.
Wisconsin improves to 8-3 (6-2 B1G) on the season and remains tied atop the Big Ten West division with Minnesota. The Badgers and Golden Gophers play next Saturday with the winner not only receiving the prestigious Paul Bunyan’s Axe trophy but a bid to the B1G Championship Game in Indianapolis against either Michigan or Ohio State. Saturday’s game is currently scheduled for a 3:00 PM kickoff. WSAU coverage will begin at 1:00.
