LAS VEGAS, NV (WSAU) — The Wisconsin Badgers fell into an early deficit that grew to 16 points but managed to pull away to a 69-58 win over Texas A and M in the first round of the Maui Jim Maui Invitational on Monday.
Johnny Davis led the charge with 21 points while Brad Davison added 19 points. Wisconsin shot nearly 40% in the game compared to 38% for the Aggies.
This year’s tournament is being played in Las Vegas but remains an eight-team, three-game guarantee format. Wisconsin has now advanced to the tournament semifinals in three straight appearances. That includes a second-place finish in 2016 when the Badgers fell to Georgetown in the title game and a 3rd-place finish in 2009.
Texas A and M will now play Butler Tuesday afternoon, while Wisconsin will play Houston in the first semifinal at 4 PM Tuesday. WSAU Pregame coverage will begin at 3 PM.
Oregon, St. Mary’s (CA), Notre Dame, and Division II Chaminade round out the eight-team field.
