KRONENWETTER, WI (WSAU) — The Village of Kronenwetter has come up with a plan for spending the first half of their ARPA dollars.
Village Administrator Richard Downey says after some discussion the board has voted to use over $400,000 to pay down the costs of hooking their water utility up to the Village of Rothschild’s utility, which will allow for the purchase of treated water from Rothschild.
The dollars will help build a small facility near the Relocation Bar on County Road XX. “It’s probably no bigger than a large shed,” said Downey. “It’s about a quarter of a million-dollar building but you have to do all the pipes and everything else, control systems. So that, plus the cost of purchasing the water, are going to be our major expenses.”
The project came about after residents noticed a discoloration in their water due to high levels of Maganese that have been traced to one of the village’s wells. While not a health hazard, for some the water was discolored. Downey says there are plans to either scout for a new well or clean up the well that’s contaminated which could possibly allow
Downey says the project seemed like a natural fit for the dollars but because the village is made up of both subdivision and rural areas, not everyone is hooked into the municipal water system. That means the next round of ARPA money will likely be used on a different project that can benefit all residents.
“The board really had to take a look at our population and say how can we do this fairly? We have this water quality project, let’s put the $430 [thousand] towards that project so the rates don’t have to be adjusted too much. Then for that second traunch lets see if we can do more for the community.”
Altogether the village will receive about $866,000 from the plan.
