MARSHFIELD, WI (WSAU) — Turf Tamers in Marshfield is reporting the theft of two catalytic converters from their vehicles.
According to police the two pickups were parked at their location on S Central Avenue between November 15th and 27th and had the parts stolen sometime between those dates.
Management at Turf Tamers reported the incident on Monday.
Catalytic Converters, which are part of a vehicle’s exhaust system, have been the target of thieves because of the precious metals they contain which make them valuable on the resale market.
The Wisconsin Legislature is working on a proposal that would require additional documentation to sell catalytic converters for scrap metal including proof of ownership or a form of ID. Similar laws were recently put in place in Minnesota, which cut down on the crimes significantly.
Police say you should park your vehicle in an enclosed garage or well-lit area to prevent your car from becoming an easy target.
