Jonathan and Sumitra Stolp
WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — One of the parents charged in a child neglect case involving the death of an adopted daughter has entered a not guilty plea to charges of reckless homicide, child neglect, and restricting or obstructing an officer.
Sumitra Stolp was in a Marathon County Courtroom on Wednesday where she entered the plea. A judge then scheduled a pretrial conference for January 20th.
Stolp and her husband, Jonathan Stolp, are accused of abusing their daughter who spent a week in a medically induced coma in August before she died at Marshfield Children’s Hospital. Investigators say Stolp initially told them the girl had hurt herself on the playground, then changed her story to say she was injured in an accident at home.
Doctors say the child showed elevated levels of cold medicine and alcohol and also had significant brain and skull injuries.
Jonathan Stolp also faces lesser counts of child neglect and obstructing an officer. He is due in court later this month. In the meantime, both are being held on bond and have been ordered to have no contact with each other.
