KRONENWETTER, Wi (WAOW TV -WSAU) — Central Wisconsin Airport celebrated the opening of its brand new runway Monday afternoon.
WAOW TV reports that the runway opened with a ribbon cutting , after nine months of construction and a cost of 16 million dollars.
The project started after years of wear & tear were taking their toll on the airport’s other runways, with officials saying the new one will help for years to come.
CWA’s director Brian Grefe said ‘the significance of the project for the airport is longevity”. He said “it’s our secondary runway and this will be preserved for decades into the future…for 20,30,40 years”.
The runway is 6,501 feet long and 150 feet wide, made of concrete and features all LED lighting, which Grefe says makes the runway energy efficient and low-maintenance.
