WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — There will be a minimum of two new faces on the Wausau City Council this April, and two districts will require a primary ahead of the April 5th election.
Pat Peckham and Tom Neal filed non-candidacy papers and will step down from their seats in District 1 and 4, respectively, and both districts have more than two challengers looking to fill the seat.
Carol Lukens, John Kroll, and William Bublitz have all completed paperwork in District 1. District 4 challengers are Doug Diny, Jesse Kearns, Vada A. Perkins, and Kathryne Tracey.
Voters will narrow both lists down to two candidates on February 15th.
Of the nine remaining seats on the council, five are unopposed. Michael Martens (District 2), Beckly McElhaney (District 6), Lisa Rasmussen (District 7), Dawn Herbst (District 9), and Lou Larson (District 10) will all retain their seats on the board.
Contested seats include District 11 where Deb Ryan faces Chad Henke. In District 8 Sarah Watson is opposed by Thomas “Tony” Brown. Incumbent Jim Wadinkski will face former Alder Gary Gisselman, who stepped away from the Council two years ago but has filed to run again.
The last contested race is in District 3 where Tom Kilian will defend his seat against Jo Ann Egelkrout.
Voters are encouraged to check the myvote.wi.gov website to confirm their districts and polling pace before the spring election.
