WAUSAU, WI (WSAU-WAOW) – First Student, the company that provides school buses for the Wausau School District is bringing in substitute bus drivers from Milwaukee.
The Wausau School District said in an email to WAOW-TV:
“The Wausau School District continues to work closely with First Student on some bus route cancellations. We certainly understand the frustration these cancellations have caused our families whose students rely on buses to get to and from school. That said, we want them to know that First Student has now received relief drivers from another First Student location to help run bus routes within our District.”
“For background, since Tuesday, we’ve had five routes canceled. In total, we have 65 bus routes running in the Wausau School District on an average day. For Wednesday afternoon, there is only one route cancellation.”
The district also said; “In addition to what the bus company First Student is doing to notify families that are affected, the District says they will continue to communicate if there are any more route cancellations; giving them as of a heads up as possible so they can arrange for other transportation for their students(s) We will also continue to work closely with First Student to limit the impact on students and their families if there are any more cancellations going forward.”
In an email, the principal at Maine Elementary told parents that the drivers will have maps, however children may arrive home a little later than usual and pickup times may be slightly affected.
