NEW YORK, NY (WSAU) –The World Health Organization is recommending two new drugs to treat COVID-19.
The first is called baricitinib which helps suppress an overwhelmed immune system. The second medicine is a monoclonal antibody drug called sotrovimab.
The WHO only recommends giving the second drug to those who are at high risk of hospitalization but have mild or moderate symptoms. The WHO said the “extent to which these medicines will save lives depends on how widely available and affordable they will be.”
Meanwhile, free COVID home-test kits will become available starting Wednesday. There will be a limit of four test kits per household when the federal government begins taking orders on January 19th.
Tests are expected to be shipped within seven-to-12 days of ordering. The Biden administration has ordered hundreds of thousands of home test kits.
The kits can be ordered at COVIDTests.gov
