MADISON, WI (WSAU) — Wisconsin erased a 2-1 deficit to score a 3-2 win over Michigan State in Big Ten men’s hockey play and secure a weekend sweep of the Spartans.
Max Johnson put Wisconsin on the board midway through the second period to tie the game at 1. Wisconsin would then take advantage of two power plays in the first eight minutes of the third, scoring a goal on each to climb on top 3-2.
Brock Caufield and Mathieu De St. Phalle netted the tying and go-ahead goals in the third. Tarek Baker and Carson Bantle recorded an assist on each.
All of the scoring in the game came in the second and third frames.
Wisconsin went 2/7 on the power play for the game including 2/4 in the third period. They nearly cashed in a third man-advantage late in the game with a whopping seven-shot power play but came up empty.
Jared Moe went the distance in net for the Badgers. He made 24 saves on 26 shots.
With the weekend results Wisconsin leap-frogged Michigan State into 5th place in Big Ten with 16 points. They’ll travel to University Park, PA next weekend for two against Penn State.
