ANTIGO, WI (WSAU-WAOW) – The Antigo Optimist Club continued a decades-long tradition Tuesday night — the annual Christmas tree bonfire.
The club facilitated an event where Christmas trees collected by the city were burned as a ceremonial, “unofficial end” to the holiday season.
Attendees are told to bring their own tree to add to the fire.
Member Tim Sharon says there had been a smaller collection than in years past, but the event is something he looks forward to planning. “It’s a chance for the community to get out and visit with their neighbors and friends and a lot of people hang around for a couple hours until there’s just a pile of ashes there.”
Donations to the Antigo Community Food Pantry were also accepted during the burning.
