TOWN OF BERGEN, WI (WSAU-WAOW) – Mary Gebert, the Town of Bergen clerk, is facing several felony charges related to voter fraud. She appeared in Marathon County court on Thursday.
The incident dates back to the 2020 presidential election.
Investigators say at the end of the night, the poll workers couldn’t find one of the voter numbers. However, the numbers need to match for a vote to be counted.
Court documents say because they couldn’t get the numbers to match, Gebert signed a random person’s name without their knowledge. But that person no longer lived in Bergen and had already voted in their new town.
Gebert reportedly admitted to signing the name.
A judge ruled she can continue her position as town clerk, but she has to be supervised by someone else during elections.
At the time of the signing, investigators say Karen Kupla, the Chief Inspector Election Day, and Angela Domagola, a poll worker, were also present and knew Gebert signed the name fraudulently. They are also facing charges.
