STEVENS POINT, WI (WSAU-WOAW) – A $4-million referendum will determine if the Portage County Health Center will expand.
A resolution put the issue on the ballot for April 5th.
The funding would expand the number of beds at the center for elderly and disabled clients. Officials say the current building is holding them back, only able to host about 30 beds when it is authorized for nearly 50.
“We’ve been running this since 1931, there have been some upgrades but none recent.” Portage County Executive Chris Holman told WAOW-TV. He said that the building is an old and is not suitable for modern long-term care.
Holman stressed that the $4 million is just an estimate, and they won’t necessarily use all of it. Design plans would be finalized if voters approve the funding this spring.
