STEVENS POINT, WI (WSAU-WAOW) — A Portage County man will be sentenced for charges of aggravated battery after he beat another man for petting his dog.
Gabriel Ross was convicted of the charge of battery with the intent to cause great bodily harm and threats to injure a person by a jury late last week, according to WAOW TV.
The victim had stopped by Ross’ home on his way to another appointment, and when he went to pet Ross’ dog he was threatened. Ross then hit him and drug him out of the house by his shirt collar.
The victim says Ross held him against a brick wall and continued to punch him until he lost sight. When the beating stopped, he was able to call 911 and first responders said they found him covered in his own blood.
Ross admitted to causing injuries to the unnamed victim, and also served as his own defense team in the case. He claimed he took action because he didn’t want the dog to bark and possibly wake up a sleeping baby in the home. He added, “if the dogs got riled up they could bite people in the house and because the victim had pulled the defendant’s shirt up when the victim tried to defendant himself.”
Ross has over a dozen prior convictions. He will remain jailed until his sentencing on April 15th
